Working with models

Hello!
On this entry I´d like to post one of my firsts post from my blog titled "working with models"
You can read it in English or in Spanish (sorry if my English is not perfect)

ENGLISH VERSION
The first thing you need to do is to find a model. There are a lot of options: internet, model agencies, even the streets. (I´ll write a post about it soon).

Once you’ve found the model, talk to them about what you want, explain what you need. It´s not a good idea to start to shoot and having no idea of what you want.

There is a big difference between working with new models and working with experienced models. New models usually need more direction.

Giving direction is one of the hardest things for me and it was difficult to learn during the first photoshoots.

It´s necesary to explain to the models what the pose or situation you are looking for. If you have a pose in mind and the model is not sure about how to do it just adopt the pose yourself. You can also show them a picture or anything that may help your model.

It´s very important to make sure your model is comfortable and has everything they need. A good idea is told they are doing a good job. Of course never pressure a model to do something they don’t want to. Treat all models with respect, they are doing their job.

Take some breaks so everyone can drink or just relax for a few minutes.

To tell a great story you need the help of your teem: models, make up, hair, photo assistants and stylist. Make sure everyone knows what they are supposed to do.


VERSIÓN EN ESPAÑOL

Lo primero que necesitas es encontrar un/a modelo. Hay muchas opciones: Internet, agencias de modelos, incluso las calles. (Escribiré un artículo sobre ello próximamente).

Una vez encuentres un/a modelo, habla con él/ella sobre lo que quieres, explícale lo que necesitas. No es una buena idea empezar a fotografiar y no tener idea de lo que quieres.

Hay una gran diferencia entre trabajar con nuevos/as modelos y trabajar con modelos con experiencia. Los/las modelos que están empezando necesitan más dirección.

Dirigir es una de las cosas más difíciles para mí y fue difícil aprender en las primeras sesiones.

Es necesario explicar a los/as modelos la pose o situación que estás buscando. Si tienes una pose en mente y el/la modelo no está seguro de cómo hacerla simplemente adopta la pose tú mismo. También puedes enseñarle una imagen o cualquier cosa que pueda ayudarle.

Es muy importante asegurarte de que tu modelo está cómodo/a y tiene lo que necesita. Una buena idea es decirle que está haciendo un buen trabajo. Por supuesto nunca presiones a un/a modelo a hacer algo que no quiere. Trata a todos/as con respecto, están haciendo su trabajo.

Haz algunos descansos para que todos puedan beber o relajarse unos minutos.

Para contar una buena historia necesitas la ayuda de tu equipo: modelos, maquilladores, peluqueros, estilistas, asistente de fotografía y estilista. Asegúrate de que todos conocen lo que se supone tienen que hacer.
